When in Rome by Productive Life 365
It is Not Just Another Road Trip When IT’S ROME
Even if you had a week it would not be enough to feel the real Rome, but there are some things that can be seen and done so that you can get a closer look to the real amazing Rome. From historic tours through ancient Rome to Sunday morning shopping at the Porta Portese flea market to climbing to the top of St. Peter’s Basilica, this city is bursting with things to do. You can help your chances of returning to Roma by tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain; fate might just bring you back to the Eternal City, or so the legend goes.
1.Trevi Fountain
Finished in the mid-1700s, the Trevi is a powerful example of a baroque design with a distinctly mythological character. The god of the sea, Neptune, emerges from the pool, flanked by his trusty Tritons.According to Roman lore, throwing one, two or three coins into the Trevi, with your right hand over your left shoulder, ensures 1) you’ll return to Rome, 2) you’ll fall in love with an attractive Roman, and 3) you’ll marry that same Roman.
2.The Pantheon
Though the name refers to a temple for all the gods, the Pantheon is actually the burial place of Rome’s kings and other prominent figures, including Raphael. The temple was built between 118 and 128 A.D. on the site of an older temple. A feat of architectural ingenuity, it was the world’s largest dome until the modern era, has been called the world’s only architecturally perfect building, and is the best-preserved monument of Imperial Rome. Walk inside and look up—theoculus in the dome is open to the sky, letting sunlight filter in.
3.Sistine Chapel
You’re not allowed to take photographs inside so this is one wonder for your eyes only. And in any case, photos of the ceiling masterpiece – the Last Judgment by Michelangelo – don’t do the 16th century artwork justice.
4.Go inside St Peter’s Basilica
Michelangelo’s dome dominates the skyline here, and has inspired the designs of St Paul’s Cathedral in London and the Capitol Building in Washington. That church was razed to make way for the current one, the world’s largest church at 18,000 square yards, which has been standing on this spot since 1626. Inside, there are outstanding mosaics and artwork, including Bernini’s baldachin and Michelangelo’s Pietà. The interior can hold 20,000 people, so even if there’s a queue to get in, once you’re inside it isn’t too crowded.
5.Get on to your food porn mode and try the real italian cuisine
Who doesn’t like pizza? Pasta? Ice cream? Or coffee? There’s no way that you will leave Italy without trying these remarkably Italian dishes. Trust me you won’t get enough of it, even the simplest toppings of pizza will satisfy you.
6.Shopping along Via Del Corso
It has all boutiques you will ask for. From cheapest to high end brands will be found in this heaven-like road.In this city, discounts are real deal. When it said 70% off, you got 70% off. Don’t be afraid buying local shoe brand. Italian loves fashion as much as you do, expect great designs and good quality from any store!
7.Colosseum
The Roman Colosseum is a testament to the architectural skills of the ancient Roman people and offers insight into the culture that celebrated the gladiator games at this huge entertainment arena. The first bloody fight ensued in A.D. 82, starting a tradition of battles between men and beasts in a public forum with crowds reaching 50,000. Outside of the Colosseum, look out for the photo opportunity beneath the Arch of Constantine, which was built in 315 to commemorate the victory of Constantine over Marcus Aurelius Valerius Maxentius
